Happy Sixth Birthday!

Dear Sophie,
Well, sweetie, another year has sneaked by. How does it feel to be a six-year-old, and how did you get there so quickly? What a birthday you had today! Lots and lots of new toys and a new collar and some treats from Grandma, and with all that ... of course you went for the cooky in the treat ball first! You're so funny. I don't think you quite understand the concept of birthdays or why you were showered with presents this evening, but it looked like you were having a good time. The birthday cake with six candles on it was a blast ... just had to buy that for you! But I don't think you were as impressed by the piercing musical rendition of 'Happy Birthday' it played. There aren't a whole lot of firsts on the list this year, mainly because you've already done most everything. You got your flight numbers up to 39; didn't quite hit forty but that'll come in two weeks. And there are still a few surprises up my sleeve for your future years. This year, you added six new states to your been-there-done-that list ... North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, and Illinois ... bringing your total to thirteen states! For one brief instant, you were even in two states at the same time. Sophie, I love you more every day of your life, and my own life has been so enriched because you're here for me. I don't know what I'd ever do without you. I pray for a safe, happy journey through your seventh year and I'll sure be doing my best to make it so. Happy Birthday, Sophie! I love you!
